Morgan has been teaching more classes recently (Turbokickboxing, 24 Hour Lift, 24 Hour Set) at various locations (Pasadena Active, Glendale Sport, Glendale Active). And I try to make it to all of them because she is always challenging my body. She really believes that by continually changing your routines, you will get stronger and you will see improvement! That's why she will throw out unique moves that I've never tried in any other 24 hour group exercise class (and I've taken a lot of classes in the past 4 years). I also heard she's NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certified (the best and most difficult certification for personal trainers). BEWARE not all personal trainers at 24 hour fitness are NASM certified. That is why I've had three 24 hour fitness trainers that taught me b.s. (One trainer told me that I can eat 1600 calories of candy, because all that mattered was the number of calories. This is terrible unhealthy advice!) And what really hurt was that none of them cared about my goals.

I seriously did not trust any personal trainer after that. I told myself that I would wait until I could afford Jessica Alba's personal trainer (I'm still coming after ya Ramona Braganza!) But now I'm stoked that Morgan's going to be a personal trainer at the Pasadena Halstead gym. It is obivious that she LOVES what she does. She also KNOWS what it takes to lose weight (she lost 40 lbs herself! And maintained a great physique the past few years). I see her paying close attention to form. I know she believes in a balanced body (that means she makes you work out the muscles that you really dont wanna work out, but in the end you thank her for it!) She just does a body good in all of her classes. I can trust  this hot mamma!

Before Pasadena had the 24 hr Club gym off of Colorado Blvd, there was this!

This is the first gym I ever went to. Fuck, it's been about 10 years already! Shit, time flies when you get old...er.

If memory serves me correctly, it's severely outdated, they need new machines/equipment, etc.... The juicebar/eatery was pretty nice, but defeated the purpose of losing weight if they put a freaking "bar" inside the place where you want to not think about food. WTF?

I upgraded my membership long ago and only hit up the Magic Johnson Club 24 hr gym on the border of Pasadena/Altadena.

This gym sucks, but it's not as bad as some people say.  Compared to the one near Old Town, this has plentiful parking and better layout (i.e. not a multilevel labyrinth).

The equipment is old (esp. some free weights), but they recently picked up some new weight machines.  So they do upgrade eventually.

The only good things I can really think of are:

-3 flat bench presses, more than most other gyms
-Trader Joe's is across the street

Coincidentally, I only go here when I need to go to Trader Joe's AND it happens to be my bench press day.

This week, my coworker tells me that he was on the wrestling team in high school, and when he had to drop weight quick for a weigh in, he would just run it off.  He could shed pounds in a day.

I love the Wednesday step class at the Altadena location and determined to drop pounds this week, even if it is just water, I hit this spot up today for their 6 PM step class.  Coming straight from work, I realized in the car that I forgot my gym shoes.

How determined am I to work out today?

I did a step class in my socks today for the first time.  It's a good thing the class is really basic, because there were points where I felt I was slippin or slidin.  Though this is an extremely small gym, the cardio room was fairly spacious, full of steppers, and remained cool.  I might come back with shoes, I only wish the class was a little faster.

I lost 1.5 lbs (probably mostly water) since yesterday!

I was expecting the worse. Actually it was not bad but not good either. I went around 7:00pm primetime. It is underground. The gym feels cramped. Not enought elliptical machines. The kickboxing  class was packed. Lot of old people here gawking. The weight machines are tight next to each other. Sweaty stuff on all the machines I tried. I am glad I don't  work here.

The reviews of this 24 from other fellow Yelpers are pretty accurate ~ Yes, it's stuffy when it gets crowded since it's underground, some ellipticals/treadmills are broken and they don't get fixed right away....I wouldn't be surprised if they're still not yet in working order, plus there's always a line for them, and the machines in the weight room seem to be older than I am.  In addition, the exercise room floor is pretty dirty with strands of hair and dirt, including the mats.

But dispite all the negatives, I still came to this 24 before the new one in Arcadia was opened.  Somehow, I never disliked working out at this gym.  It was a simple (no pool/jacuzzi...just a sauna) and intimate gym that had all the machines I needed to get a good workout.  It never got too crowded, I guess 'cuz not too many people liked coming here.  However, I always saw the same old lady there who I think is over 80 but health & skin-wise, seemed like she's in her late 60's.  It was really motivating for me to see that exercise really does the body good!

This gym is the second suckiest gym I've been to. The first is Ballys on Arroyo Parkway.

Below ground level, the gym is tiny and super cramped. I'm always too grossed out to touch the weight equipment because you can usually see the sweaty indents of the person who used it last. I usually use the elliptical and treadmill machines, but because at least a quarter of the machines are always broken, the wait can last up to 15 minutes. Do you know how many calories I could have been burning for 15 minutes?

Also, don't use the fourth elliptical machine from the end. Water (or I hope it's just water) tends to drip on you from the ceiling pipes at no particular cadence, closely emulating Chinese water torture.

I hate this gym, even though without it I would still have an extra 35 pounds hanging out on my belly and thighs.  Yes, 35 pounds!  But I bet I'd have lost it even faster had I stayed at the gym longer, but that was impossible given the sauna-like temperatures of this underground hellhole.  Here's why I hate East Pasadena 24 Hour:

1) There are only like 8 ellipticals, and there is almost always a line for them.
2) Half the ellipticals are broken, and the half that work still make annoying creaks while you're on them
3) Crazy people here leave sweaters on a machine while they walk away for 5 minutes, and when you politely move their things so you can use the machine because you've been waiting in line for 15 minutes, they come back and get in your face about how they've claimed it already, and you have to show them what's up by screaming back at them and refusing to get off of it until people around you take their ipod earbuds out to see what's going on.  Well, crazy lady, you win!  I don't ever plan to do cardio at this place ever again.

Suck on that!

This was the first 24 Hour Fitness I went to. It's close to my job so it was convenient. Yes, it is small but that's because it's an Active location which is meant to be a smaller gym.

I personally haven't seen the craziness in the weight room but wouldn't be surprised. There have been times where I'm working out on a machine in the other area. For maybe a minute or two. All of a sudden someone will walk up and look at me impatiently. When I see that I take even longer to spite them.

Personally I prefer the Sport locations in Altadena and Arcadia. Where I don't have people crowding me.

I went to this gym out of sheer convenience because it was near my work (downstairs).  The employees are rude and sometimes, the trainers seem to be your stereotypical trainers.  They have overweight people working the front, which shouldn't happen for a gym. I feel bad for the older folks that get sucked into training session since they clearly should be at a 'Nifty after Fifty'.

It gets REALLY stuffy in here, the rooms are tiny, low ceilings and due to the honeycomb shape of the place the air doesn't circulate well so when you enter you get a big pang in your lungs from breathing in vapors of acidic sweat.  It gets incredibly crowded here.  I've seen many guys get at each other in the weight room, which isn't very friendly, one jerk even started yelling at a poor woman because she didn't realize he 'claimed' a machine on one side of the room even though he was working on another machine and started yelling obscenities at her.

I hear the showers are quite dirty too, I've been too scared to check myself...

I only go to this gym because of their Kickboxing teacher. I mean, the teacher is very tough on everyone and barely slows down during the entire one-hour session, which is what I'm looking for! She only teaches Wednesday nights. Other than this, I just go once a month before work. Overall it's not that bad.

This 24 Hour Fitness is pretty nasty, but I've been able to bear through it since it's the closest one to where I live.  It's the dungeon-type feel combined with a hotel-type feel.  It smells funny, it gets real crowded at peak hours, and my friend's mom got her tires slashed outside in the parking lot.... but it'll get the job done if you want a workout.  I did notice they have a children's play area... I'm sure they have a better time than their parents =)

This place has a lot of equipment for machines.  As for bench and free weights it could add more.  It is usually busy, but not too much where you have to wait for a machine.  The one problem I do have is the free weight room smells horrible.  There are several running machines and they are up to date with technology.  I have the three year 599 unlimited package, so I can not talk about price per month.  I am happy with the experience at this location.
